We started out to supply the best quality wholefoods available, and over the years it has become clear that this must mean Organic. This is not just our opinion Newcastle University has found that Organic food has a higher nutritional value than ordinary produce.
The Newcastle team grew fruit, vegetables and reared cattle on adjacent organic and non-organic sites across Europe.
They found up to 40% more antioxidants could be found in organic fruit and vegetables than in non-organic.
‘Organic farming is about working with nature to produce healthy food in a way that can be maintained indefinitely.’
Organic food is protected by law – you can be sure that anything labelled organic and with an organic certification, such as the Soil association symbol, complies with the EU law on organic standards.
This means :
No Genetic modification anywhere in the food chain
No pesticides, or herbicides
No hydrogenated fats or artificial colours
No unneccesary packaging
No irradiation or nanotechnology
Improved habitat for wildlife
Minimum processing
On average higher levels of some nutrients than non organic foods
Higher standard of animal welfare
Better tasting food
Organic food is certified by several organisations, under the umbrella of IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture).
These include :
The Soil Association
Organic Farmers & Growers
Demeter
At Naturally Good Food we hold both a processor and grower licence from the Soil Association, our latest (2009 inspection) had some great comments that can be seen on our blog.
