Save money with bulk Organic Wholefoods

In the rural village of Cotesbach, just south of Lutterworth you can find our Wholefood shop tucked away from the Main Street in the Stable Yard.

We have loads of organic food and gluten free food, and some which are both, but we realised that not many of our local shoppers realise just what a huge range of bulk buys we have on offer.

Online we sell lots of 25kg, 5kg and 1kg bags of organic nuts, seeds, beans and rice plus porridge oats in sacks. By buying in bigger packs like this you can save a lot of money. We don’t have loads of space for storage - one of the downsides of being in such a lovely leafy place , so it’s a good idea to order ahead, online of by phone, to be sure we have exactly what you need put by.

We started out as a buying group, and had loads of fun sharing out the bulk flour and oats with the help of out small children! This is a great way to save money and still afford the best quality food. Give us a call if you’d like more information on 01455 556878

Seed Fiddle in Action

Added on May 23rd, 2010
Found in Cotesbach Estate, environmental

The discovery of an old Victorian seed fiddle coincided with the need for Tom Newton to put a small field down to a mix for butterflys and bees, the key thing with this mixture is there is no grass seed. So we hope for a meadow full of flowers for the bees and butterflys and insects.

Found in Cotesbach Estate, News, organic

On Saturday 10th October we had a new addition to the Stable Yard at Cotesbach. Jasons Organic Butcher opened after much work by Tom, Jason and his family.

Jason has moved to Cotesbach following the sale of Elmhurst Organic Farm. At Elmhurst Jason ran the butchers shop and much of the farm. The long-term plan is that more of the Cotesbach Estate will be converted to organic production and the estate will produce organic meat as well as the fruit and veg that comes from the kitchen garden.

With the addition of Jason the Stable Yard can now forfill all your organic food needs.

The Cotesbach Educational Trust had its launch meeting and presentation on Friday 9th October.

Jackie Strong the Chair outlined the vision for the future, bringing the old school house back to life as an Educational resource. It was really good to see such a full turn out, and the village church was packed. After the presentation all the visitors were able to view the school house and discuss the project. For more details you can visit the cotesbachschoolhouse.org,uk site that is now up and running.

MERLIN FINDS A NEW HOME

Added on March 20th, 2009
Found in Cotesbach Estate, Events

Cotesbach has recently become home to a Rolls Royce Merlin 724C engine, which was fired up successfully for the first time since its arrival on 8th March 2009.
The Merlin is a liquid cooled 27 litre V12 piston aircraft engine with supercharger, designed and developed as a private venture by Rolls Royce (PV-12), first flown in 1935 and fitted to the Spitfires of Battle of Britain fame (designed by Joseph Mitchell) which were pivotal in the victory of World War II.
The Merlin enabled aircraft to fly at least 100mph faster than before, reaching speeds of 450mph and greatly improving performance at high altitude.

 spitfire

Widely considered to be among the most successful engines produced during World War II, Merlin engines were also used in Hurricanes, Wellingtons, Defiants, Lancasters, Halifaxes, Mustangs and Mosquitos.
This engine was one of four fitted to a Canadair McDonald Douglas DC4 Argonaut civilian plane of the 1950s, each 1800hp (this one is labelled ‘Right Wing Outer’).
It was acquired and lovingly restored by Tom’s late cousin Francis Machin, architect and son of the sculptor Arnold Machin who produced the iconic image of The Queen’s head we know so well from the Royal Mail stamp.  His mother, Patricia Newton, was an artist.
The engine was kept at Francis’ home, Garmelow Manor, Staffs, but since his early death in 2007 resulted in the sale of that property, Tom has been appointed ‘Guardian of the Merlin’ until Francis’ children can accommodate it, as it is hoped to keep the engine in the family.

We are proud that this crucial piece of aviation history can make its home so close to two others : Stanford Hall where Percy Pilcher broke the world distance record in 1897 leaving the ground in his ‘Hawk’ for 250 metres, and Lutterworth, the birthplace of Sir Frank Whittle whose jet engine superceded the Merlin design at the end of World War II.
