Every now and then we take some products out to test with local people and there can be no greater test than the local Brownie pack. You can’t fool children into liking things, either they like it or they don’t. Well the results of our test with dried fruit was a very clean set of dishes, with not a morsel left, I thought they could not of had their tea.
The vote for which was best was :
- Fairtrade Dried Pineapples - a very sweet juicy dried fruit, the sweetest of the test.
- Organic Dried Apricots – most of the children had not tasted dried Apricots before, and were a bit alarmed by the dark colour of the dried fruit, but once they had tasted the Apricots scored on taste and being juicy.
- Figs – to my great surprise the figs also disappeared, these were a good big mouthful and for once the group was quiet as they ate their way through some great figs.
- Mango – to my great surprise the dried Mango was preferred over what I thought was a really lovely fresh Mango, I think the kids enjoyed the fruity taste and the chew.
- Banana Chips - the Banana chips came last on the taste test, but even still all the samples went.
It was really fun seeing the reaction from the girls to lots of different flavours and it just reinforced the idea that children will eat health foods and you don’t need to feed them junk.
