Pasta - Spelt

Spelt pasta from Naturally Good Food

At Naturally Good Food we stock a large number of spelt products, including a great variety of spelt pasta products.

Spelt is one of the oldest cultivated grains (an ancient cousin of wheat). As a Roman, you would have worn a toga and eaten spelt! Spelt pasta simply tastes great and retains its shape and texture during cooking. As it has a more robust texture, it also holds sauce better.

At Naturally Good Food we stock the full range of Biona spelt pastas. We trust Biona because they believe in 100% traceability for all their products. They know all their ingredients are of the highest quality, completely natural and fully suitable for vegetarians.

Variety of spelt pasta shapes

Across the world there are a great number of different pasta shapes, and many more names: the same pasta can have numerous names. For example, farfalle pasta is often called 'butterfly' or 'bowtie' pasta - but what's in a name? Farfalle by any other name tastes as good!

Cooks use different shapes and sizes of pasta for different purposes, with certain shapes holding certain sauces better than others.

At Naturally Good Food we like to give a choice, so as with our other products, we have different spelt pasta shapes. If you like a thick, hearty sauce, we suggest you choose a wholemeal spelt pasta in a fusilli shape, to marry best with your sauce.

Wholemeal and white spelt pasta

We stock spelt pasta in both wholemeal and white varieties.

Organic spelt pasta

At Naturally Good Food we want to give our customers the best quality natural foods we can. For us, this means organic, when it is available. With spelt pasta we are fortunate, in that all our spelt pasta is organic.

What is spelt?

Spelt is an ancient grain, which should not be confused with common bread wheat. It's a member of the same grain family as wheat, but is an entirely different species, with certain distinct properties. Having fallen from favour as a grain for cultivation in the 19th century, following the rapid development in modern farming techniques, spelt is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity, as information about its value as a food source, and its ability to be tolerated by many people with wheat sensitivities, becomes more widely known.

Kamut

The growing interest in ancient wheat grains has also given rise to the increasing popularity of kamut, which originally came from  Afghanistan and the north-east of Iran. This grain is twice the size of modern-day wheat and is known for its rich, nutty flavour.

Case discount

Don't forget, there is a 10% discount at Naturally Good Food for buying a case, so you can eat high quality food at some good prices. Spelt pasta keeps well, so buying a case makes great sense.

Other spelt products

As you would expect from a company that has a huge range of healthy, nutritious products, we don't just stock spelt pasta, but have many lines that feature spelt. The vast majority of these are organic.
