Maintaining a healthy heart is an obvious prerequisite for us all, but if you wish to excel at sport, then it's essential that your heart is in the best shape it can be.
As with many things related to nutrition, we in the West are learning about great things from other cultures, such as:
Perhaps the start of this journey of discovery was when researchers observed that 'eskimos' (as they were then termed), who eat mainly oily fish, had fewer heart attacks and strokes than the average.
The expert view
Alison Hornby, a dietitian and spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association (BDA), says that if there's one food that's good for your heart, it's oily fish.
She states: 'the benefits of eating at least two portions of fish a week, including one of oily fish, include keeping your blood pressure at a healthy level and improving blood lipids, both of which reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease, the biggest killer in the UK.
'Remember that you can get your omega-3 from a range of oily fish. Tinned sardines and mackerel, for example, are an easy and cheap way to stock up the store-cupboard. Eaten on toast with a side salad, this makes a quick, easy and nutritious meal.'
At Naturally Good Food we like our food, but we also like to try to maintain the natural balance of the world. Our fish stocks around the world are being depleted: for this reason, we think it is essential that we fish responsibly. This led to our decision to stock products from Fish4Ever.
After all, if we take out more than can be sustained, what happens to the next generation?
The fish we stock from Fish4Ever is wild-caught and as such, can't be labelled as organic, as there is no traceability.
As we only stock sustainably harvested fish products, we do at times have news items about these.
