An economy or catering size bag of dried figs to save you money and time. These organic figs have a delicious smell and a squidgy, juicy interior, bursting with little seeds. They're a great source of fibre and full of potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and copper, as well as vitamins A, E and K. Theyve got a wealth of prebiotics, helping digestion, and indeed, make a good natural laxative!
These dried figs are delicious to eat straight from the packet. The soft seeds inside have a delightful crunch, but watch out for the end of the stalk which is a little harder. Depending on the years harvest and growing conditions, our figs may be large or small and darker or lighter in colour. Some are softer than others, but all can be rehydrated to make them particularly soft. We all like a test nibble on them just as they are and they work well in baking in their 'hard' form too.
Sometimes, the sugar inside dried figs begins to crystallise on the outside. If youve not seen this before, it can look a little surprising even, if you get a lot of sugar, a bit like mould. Rest assured, it is nothing of the sort. Many of our customers drool over the particularly sugared ones! Sugars form naturally on the surface over time, and this only adds to their delicious taste. They can be chopped and gently cooked in water to make a compote, along with other dried fruit such as apricots. Try using instead of dates in pudding recipes too
