Bulk nuts at Naturally Good Food

We are pleased to offer a full range of nuts, most of which are to Soil Association organic standard. We pack many ourselves and can offer various size combinations, with a standard 10% case discount on all purchases. Included in our nut range are all sorts of almonds, brazil nuts, cashew nuts, hazelnuts, peanuts and walnuts.

In essence, we can supply most, if not all, of your bulk nut needs. If we have not got it, then it probably is not available!

Of course, the main benefit of buying nuts in bulk is the price. As nut prices rise (as they are at the moment, and have been for some considerable time), then you will know that you have bought at the lowest price and are insulated from future increases for some time. One of the main problems with increasing nut consumption worldwide is that it takes years for a tree to mature and produce nuts - so supply does not keep up with demand. The demand for nuts is growing in areas such as China, where walnuts are an important part of the diet, and so the price of nuts relative to other items is likely only to rise.

There are other benefits to buying nuts in bulk that you might not immediately consider:

  • Buying in bulk gives you the ability to choose from a larger variety of types of nuts. If we don't have what you want listed, we can probably get it. Just contact us.
  • If you've bought in bulk, you'll always have the ingredients you want, when you need them, in the cupboard. There'll be no more running out of that vital nut ingredient.

Storing nuts in bulk

If you are buying nuts in bulk, it's prudent to understand how best to store them. Below, we have some general advice.

  • Make sure the nuts are fully dried before storing. (Not necessary for chestnuts.)

  • Use an air-tight container to maintain the proper moisture level.

  • Keep nuts away from foods with a strong smell, such as onions. One of the good things about nuts is that they can absorb the taste of other foods - but you don't want them taking on unwanted smells!

  • Store shelled nuts at room temperature for up to three months. For longer storage, consider keeping shelled or unshelled nuts in the refrigerator for up to six months, or in the freezer for a year or more.

  • For peak freshness, store nuts in the shell until you are ready to use them.
  • Note that chestnuts are not as shelf-stable as other nut varieties and must be handled differently.
  • Label your packages of nuts with the date that they were put into storage.

What you need

  • Air-tight storage containers
  • Masking tape
  • A marker pen

What to do with bulk nuts

Buying nuts in bulk means that the cost of each nut is less. This cost saving may result in you using more nuts (which is great for us)! Among the things you could consider making with the extra nuts are:

  • Your own nut butters: home-made nut butters will be the best you have ever tasted, and you can control exactly what goes into them.
  • Nut milks: perhaps not as easy to make as nut butters, but worth a try, especially if your favourite nut is now not so expensive.
  • Face scrubs: soak some almonds for a few hours, then grind them up and use them as a face scrub. No need to wash it off, it's so good that it should not be too difficult to persuade someone to lick it off...on reflection, perhaps not!
  • Snacks and muesli bars: if you get a great deal on your nuts, why not treat yourself with some home-made snacks, and perhaps the odd muesli or flapjack bar. If you make your own snacks, there will be no more picking out the bits you don't really want: simply stuff the snacks with the nuts you like best (and don't forget the dried fruit).
  • Marzipan: not just for Christmas cakes - marzipan is great all year round, and not just as a topping for a rich fruit cake. Try it on its own, or better still, with a glass of wine.

The great thing with buying in bulk is that it expands the imagination: if you have some spare bulk nuts, then what you can do with them is only limited by your own ideas - let us know any good ones you come up with!

Below are our blogs on all sorts of nuts

Our nuts in bulk are fresh

At Naturally Good Food we sell lots of great nuts, many in bulk sizes. As a consequence of selling so many nuts:

  • They are not in our building for long: this is good for the customer, as the nuts hardly touch our shelves before they are on their way to you.
  • We make a little extra profit and can therefore offer particularly good value for our bulk nuts.

This is a win-win position: the customer wins and we also win - good news all round!
